Winter is my favorite time of year to climb the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. As I photographed a beautiful sunset from Phelps Mountain, the interplay of clouds and light across the valley on Mount Marcy, the highest mountain in New York, caught my eye. I swapped out my wide-angle lens for a mid-range telephoto, and zoomed in tight on Marcy to put the focus on the warm sunset light on the summit, with layers of snowy evergreens in the foreground.
