The Norfolk seaside town of Cromer has one of the first piers to have been built in the 20th century. The current pier is the third structure; it was designed by Douglass and Arnott and opened in 1901. It has a deck with glass screened shelters, and a pavilion at the seaward end. In 1923 the pier was extended to an overall length of 500ft (151m) with the construction of the lifeboat station.
